Yesterday's News...Today!
I think especially "in this day and age", when news comes at the blink of an eye—literally. Don't those funky sunglasses do that?
We should take a moment to remember a story from long ago and bring people up to date as to the outcome of the story, kind of a where are they now piece.
Because you see a story one day and it's gone and forgotten the next.
SEPTEMBER 2016 (10 YEARS AGO)
A FAILED ASSASSIN WAS RELEASED FROM THE LOONEY BIN.
Sorry about the “looney bin,” but that's what us Baby Boomers secretly
called mental health institutions back then.
There once was a knucklehead named John Hinckley,
Whose fascination with a young Hollywood star was just plain Foster-Freaky.
He took a shot at my favorite “Gipper,”
And wound up wearing slippers—
For the next 35 years of his life!!!
During his failed assassination attempt on then President Ronald Reagan, Hinckley also wounded three others: James Brady, the
president's press secretary; a Secret Service agent; and a D.C. police officer.
The FBI says Hinckley fired six shots outside the Washington Hilton Hotel
on March 30, 1981. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity in 1982 and
was sent to a psychiatric hospital for quite a while.
At the time of his release in September 2016, he was 61 years old.
CRAP! That's one strike for us Baby Boomers.
And what, pray tell, is this reformed guy doing today?
Well, Hinckley—I'm not calling him “Jr.” because I don't want people
confusing him with John F. Kennedy Jr.—is today, in 2026, a free man living in
Williamsburg, Virginia.
He has released a memoir (don't buy it) and is trying to become an artist and musician.
Doesn't everybody deserve a second chance???
So, as I started out this blog with the terms “in this day and age”... This now reformed man could run for office and he might even have a shot at winning if he ran in California!
