BOSTON SPORTS...THEN AND NOW
As you know my name
is GRUMBLIN and being from Boston the one thing that is always at the top of
the list of things to Grumble about are the local sports teams. We love them, we hate them, we love
them—Repeat! But we are definitely passionate about them none the less. I would be remiss to not take a moment to
talk about Grumblin’s beloved Red Sox as they are about to embark on another
Ass-Kickin of the hated New York Yankees. It has been a very heart felt kind of
year as all the ups and downs reminded me of the “magical” year of 1988 when
our beloved homegrown-Hero, Joe (Mr. Walpole) Morgan took over the helm of a
struggling ship. Eerily similar to current manager Chad Tracy, both of these
skippers were brought up from AAA teams to try to revive their clubs and let’s
face it probably to sell some tickets. But both were somehow able to catapult
losing teams into playoff contenders. We
Boston fans may Grumble but we never Forget! As you may not know the “real” Joe
Morgan as we like to call him around here just very recently passed away God
Rest His Soul, he was a great man. I
don’t know why the team isn’t honoring him with a little patch with his
initials on their uniforms at least for the playoffs, Grumble,Grumble. I thought it would be interesting to look back
at the line-ups from then and now to remember some of the players or “BUMS” as
my grandmother used to call them if they lost.
